Last seasons relegation and Kompany

Initially when we were relegated I thought we may struggle to attract Kompany to the club… however looking at it now, is it possible Kompany would have chosen to manage us in this scenario over coming in as a premier league manager, given the choice?

We all know he’s pretty much on Premier league money as a manager. Relegation gave us the opportunity to rebuild and we are definitely a big hitter financially in the championship. It also gave Kompany an opportunity to leverage his contacts in the Belgium league to bring in players who work in his system… would both the transformation of style and the influx of young creative players have worked for us in the premier league? Kompany has undoubtably put himself on a lot of radars as a top, upcoming manager.

The question is now, if we do get promoted, will Kompany back himself to take us on to the next step and get us back established in the premier league… or will the immediate appeal of an established mid table premier league team with superior finances (and the offers will surely come) prove too much for him? Career wise, as much as we wouldn’t want it to happen, would that make the most sense? He’s clearly a born winner and it would be no surprise if ultimately he sees himself as a potential successor to Pep.

Kompany and his contracted players he signed all come with a 4 year deal. Yes he could go sooner, but he doesn't seem the type of guy to abandon his project at The Turf. Like Pep...he will honour his contract.
He is young, and there will be big clubs calling in the future, but for now he's staying.

I think a big chunk of his decision making was down to proximity to family home which I heard was in Manchester I think.
We were a club that was looking to undergo change both on the playing front and financially. VK's business knowledge allowed him to understand the remit and his links to young players from Belgium and City meant he already had the makings of financially astute immediate plan that suited both his and the owners plan.

I think the project is a good one and I think he has executed the first parts of it incredibly well, almost seamlessly. I think he will be invested into the challenge of getting us back up and then making us competitive and exciting in the Premiership. It would tick some real boxes on his resumee

As you have alluded to, he will at some point, want to manage City but I don't think it would be wise to do so just yet if Pep were to stand down soon. Could be too much like when Moyes taking over from Fergie. I can see him being here at least for this season and the next hopefully.

As much as I am sure he is committed to doing the best job he can, like anyone, he will always do what is best for him/his family/his career.

Vincent Kompany has faith in his ability, he wouldn't see PL football next season as a risk, more likely an opportunity.
And TBH if we go up this year and he is backed to replace our loan signings as permanent we could be OK

I’d say it will have almost zero reflection on next season.

Firstly we’ll probably have half a new team again with improvements and secondly United will have most of their team likely missing.

I have never not given him credit, it was the most amazing journey we had, but to just give him credit for such wins is ridiculous

We are now a selling club conveyor belt (I don’t see that as a bad thing) and think we’d be in no worse a position had we sold a few of our players over the last 24 months, earlier than this summer.

Most players are on four years

If we’re promoted, I think we’ll sell and upgrade a few of those players and look to cash in after two to three years on the rest.

Two or three players won’t get close to year four, even if we’re doing well.

What’s important is that we’re already scouting our next Zaroury and Benson!
