Re: With half a season gone
Difficult one to judge, but I'll plump for Cork with Jay worthy of mention, both showing their class at this level.
Benson has been the pick of our new signings though I'll agree.

Re: With half a season gone
Due to the amount of point/match winning contributions I’ll go for Benson. He is currently contributing to a goal (goal or assist) every 71 minutes, this is by far the best in the entire division!
Shout outs for Cork and Cullen who I really enjoy watching dictate play in the middle, as well as Zaroury, who you feel could make something happen every time he has the ball at his feet.

Harwood-Bellis. He’s that player that Cahill was when he came on loan and you knew straightaway he’d play for England.

Every bloody one of 'em!
I love seeing an exciting winger, so Benson and Zaroury have been fantastic to watch. The resurgence of JGB has been an unexpected joy. Old head Jay and Cork showing their class. Beyer and THB looking classy at the back. I could go on...
Too hard to single one out.

Another vote for Harwood-Bellis.
Re: With half a season gone
It's great that it's such a difficult call, just about Jack Cork for me, his class is really showing in the Championship.

THB for me-shown the greatest consistency, not missed a minute , and a rock in defence
Re: With half a season gone
Zaroury for the moment, even though he's only played half a half a season.

Hard to look beyond the two wing wizards, who have been an absolute joy. Maybe Zaroury, just for sheer talent. Benson though has single handedly won us games and has improved so much. Contributions from everywhere though.

Re: With half a season gone
So many contenders, but Anass just shades it for me.
Re: With half a season gone
Roger the Rover said something similar but I don't think Mr Zaroury was the object of his affections ...lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 5:30 pmSo many contenders, but Anass just shades it for me.
So many to pick from this season from Muric in goal, THB and Jordan Beyer Central Def ... Vitinho and Maatsen out wide defence ... the Joshes (Cullen and Brownhill) and Jack Cork ... Anass Z, Benson and JBG out Wide with Tella, Jay and Barnes ...
Plus we are getting glimpses of Darko, Twine,
& Dervisoglu off the bench
If I have to pick one ... Its Jack Cork for me ... looks like a different player in this system
Re: With half a season gone
If they all perform in the second half of the season like they have in the first then we'll be promoted at a canter, I personally feel there's more to come from most of them.
Benson btw. (How well has VK man managed him though)?

Muric for me.
Without him, I don't think we would have the points we do today.

It’s probably easier to name the ones that have only been quite good ,ie Vitinhio ,Johann,Brownhill,Muric,Barnes,Jay Rod,the rest have been exceptional.

Re: With half a season gone
In the last few games Beyer really has come to the top and I’m so hoping that the stories of us not having an option to buy in the loan contract are incorrect.
Re: With half a season gone
Right now it's Jack Cork, wouldn't be surprised if it isn't Beyer by the end of the season.

Re: With half a season gone
It’s not even close for me. Jack Cork has been the stand out from what I’ve seen and really made us look comfortable. THB has been great with Beyer (want to sign him), as has Benson in recent weeks (hit and miss to start with), plus Zaroury who has burst onto the scene. We could mention Brownhill and Cullen too who have put some serious shifts in, but Cork has stood out for me.

Re: With half a season gone
I knew that instantly with Cahill. Not so with THB. The only reason at the moment I can see THB getting in the England side is because of who he is signed to. He’s still developing I get that, but he’s got some way to go before he gets to the level Cahill was at for us. Cahill had an advantage that THB doesn’t. He had John McGreal, who was the perfect player for a developing centre half to learn from.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 4:27 pmHarwood-Bellis. At the moment, THB is currently our second best centre half.

Re: With half a season gone
Agree there has been a lot of good performances from across the team. Could have chosen probably 5 or 6 others as easily myself. The team score together and concede together.
Some good examples below of the contributions my choice has made this season so far.

I've been wowed with both Benson's and Zaroury's contributions but it seems like almost every game I've said something along the lines of "Cork was brilliant today".
Jack Cork, for me.

Re: With half a season gone
I can understand someone choosing Benson because he's done very well. What I can't follow is why anyone would think there are no other contenders when you consider the performances of a number of other players - as named on this thread - and Benson has played a lot less yet we are top of the league.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 24, 2022 7:39 amI would suggest the opposite. Anyone that goes against a player that’s averaging a goal contribution every 71 minutes and who’s goals have lead to the most points gained needs to have picked someone spectacular.
