The Burnley way

Post by The Centre Spot » Sat Mar 18, 2023 12:43 pm

Wenger brought a new perspective on training and nutrition to English football.
Guardiola brought the possession way of playing to the Premier League.
Has Vincent changed how clubs will aspire to play football in the Championship in the coming seasons?

Noting the speed - or rather lack of it - of some of, for example, the Wigan players, I woukd doubt it. To play like we are players have to be quick thinking and quick moving a la Tella. I think the Wigan defender sent off was just too slow to tackle him fairly.

I think the game in general has just changed. You can't win games consistently 1-0 defence first like Dyche and Mourinho used to do.
As for Kompany being compared to others I'd say he has a lot more to prove. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and hope he has what it takes to get us over the line this season and save us from relegation next season.
It is going to be a lot tougher to control games in the Premier League.

No. The vast majority of Championship teams do not and will not have the means to do what we have done. I don't think it lessens how big of an achievement this is but the fact is the squad we have has been built with the ability to spend big.

Even with the money we've spent, most clubs wouldn't build as good a squad and most managers wouldn't field as good a team (probably an indication that other clubs shouldn't aspire to do this) but everything we've done this season comes from the sale of Pope, Collins, Cornet and McNeil.

Some say you need a keeper who is very good with his feet, yet Newcastle are doing well with Nick Pope in goal.

VK has also had a unique opportunity to have a major clear out (most not of his choosing but who knows) and replacements of his choice brought in.
