Try asking a chap called Derek Richardson, or maybe someone from the English RFU:

Re: Wasps
I was gardening my Dads grave and found a wasps nest in it. I asked the cemetery gardeners and they said petrol and a match works. It did.

All councils have their own pest control service. A quick Google will find Burnley's offering

We had one in a Red Currant bush a few years ago within a week it had gone from the size of a cricket ball to a Football ... got an Aerosol Wasp Nest killer from B&Q
Did the job ... The bush didn't make it (but hey ho better than a colony of hot-arsed black and yellow little angry buggers)-

Re: Wasps
I used that foam stuff once. It does work, if you have easy access and as above, an escape route. Just do it around dusk and leave the nest up afterwards, supposed to put off any other colony from moving in. Only about £5 for a can.

Re: Wasps
I tried killing a nest myself in the kitchen roof. It was late August by the time I realised, so had grown to around 10k wasps.
I used foam can after foam can for about 2 weeks before getting a professional in.
It takes them about 10 seconds to spray their chemical and kills the lot.
Save the hassle. Get the professionals in.

I recalll it was called wasp nest killer or something like that over here in Ireland , anyway did a great job as you spray either early in the morning or late at night when they are sleepy . The wasps bring the form gear into the queen and she dies so end of story in about two days .
