Long distance away fans, to Elche, Spain

Post by JohnC » Fri Apr 26, 2024 7:18 pm

We were in Spain last weekend and took in the La Liga 2, Elche v Sporting Gijon game, tickets €10. I was impressed that a reasonable number of Gijon fans had made the near 900km journey from the north coast of Spain, to the Alicante region. I presume most had flown as the car journey would be 9 or 10 hours. There are longer football journeys in Spain, it must take over your whole weekend.
The football stadium is the 13th largest in Spain and was around half full on this occasion. Elche were relegated last year from La Liga.
Anyone else got memories of seeing Elche in this area of Spain?

Visit that area of Spain regularly as we have relatives who live in Algorfa, very close to the famous golf course( and of course its name has escaped me). Pity Elche were relegated. Always checked on their results.

This weekend, Girona played away at Las Palmas (Canary Islands). They won 0-2. I think it’s the longest trip of the season.

It’s 1426 miles in each direction

Over four times the distance that Bournemouth and Newcastle face when playing each other. As both locations have an airport, I wonder if both clubs seek to put a deal on for wanting fans.
