I’ve paid little interest till City lost to Al Hilal last night and it seems to have passed us by. The sums involved are significant with the winner likely to get £70m or so and further distort the disparity in funding in the PL and Europe
Chelsea so far likely to bring home at least over £40m and City £38m

I wonder how teams were chosen for this.
Maybe their players will suffer at the start of the season.
Football World Cup

Both Chelsea and City secured their places by winning the Champions League between 2021 and 2024.
Clubs from Europe were given 12 of the 32 places at this summer's tournament.
Four were intended for the Champions League winners in the qualifying period - from 2020-2021 to 2023-24 - and eight to the next best teams in the competition.
As Real won two Champions Leagues in the four-year qualifying period, the nine best 'non-winners' were awarded Club World Cup qualification.
Only two teams from each nation are allowed to qualify - unless more won each continent's equivalent Champions League during the qualifying period.
As Chelsea and City both won the Champions League in the qualifying period, they have taken England's two spots.
Of teams not to win the Champions League between 2021 and 2024, Liverpool were the fifth-best performing team across Europe.

Re: Football World Cup
UEFA got 12 slots
4 European cup winners plus remaining 8 teams based on coefficient (capped at 2 per country)
S. America was same but 6 slots (4x cup winners + 2 on coefficient)
Africa, Asia and N.America got 4 slots each (4x cup winners, reverting to coefficient if 1 team won more than once)
Oceania got 1 slot but the same team had won all 4 cups so it didn't matter.
+1 for the host country
