Re: Burnley FC catering
I’ve been to a good friend’s funeral today but didn’t go to the Turf after.
The last time I was at the Turf for anything but football was for Barry Kilby’s and then Clive Holt’s book launches. The food was very good but it was very pricey.

Re: Burnley FC catering
I saw a member of the FAB getting the same substandard service from the JHU catering team as I was being offered. Maybe add this to the agenda at the next meeting?
The staff seem to be a group of teenagers left to their own devices, with little to no supervision or guidance.
This has to come from the management, it's just there doesn't seem to be any.
Why take an order and bugger off for a minute or two to locate a pie/hot dog to then reappear to inform your customer that one of the items is 'out of stock'? It's amateurish.

Perhaps an email or two en mass to the director of fan experience to let him know how poor the food is might help improve it. His email address is readily available via googleGoody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:13 pmI saw a member of the FAB getting the same substandard service from the JHU catering team as I was being offered. Re: Burnley FC catering
The ordering tills were not working properly for most of half time in James Hargreaves lower stand.
Attempted to buy a soft drink directly at the kiosk but wasn't an option to do so.
Absolutely no contingency plans in place, single point of failure and it is very amateur.

I sent an email to the fan experience folk and didnt get a reply. Apart from getting water on our way in we spend net Zero. The point about kids serving is very valid.Last season I nipped down 10mins into second half and they were closing up.

Re: Burnley FC catering
With respect to the funeral goer , standard “ event “ catering is getting what you paid for and is done to a decent industry standard . Not really comparable to the carnage and multiple broken ordering machines that is usually the norm in the Longside lower .

Re: Burnley FC catering
I think the same issue happened at the Alex Elder Kiosk in the BLS at halftime. I stood in the queue for the best part of 10 minutes with little or no movement before giving up as a bad job because the teams were coming back out onto the pitch. I won't be troubling any kiosk with my custom in futureAwayfromburnley wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:44 amThe ordering tills were not working properly for most of half time in James Hargreaves lower stand.

Re: Burnley FC catering
I was in the same queue and one lad was buying 8 bene's for him and his mates. Unfortunately there weren't any pre poured so each one had to be measured out which took forever. Luckily I managed to get a pint and drink it, getting to my seat just as they kicked off again.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 9:52 amI think the same issue happened at the Alex Elder Kiosk in the BLS at halftime. Closing after half time has been the case ever since I’ve been going on The Turf.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:54 amI sent an email to the fan experience folk and didnt get a reply. Re: Burnley FC catering
Yes - I'm not aware that they've ever done anything different.
I usually get a beer with my mate at half-time. Service speed yesterday (and most of last season) has been a huge improvement on the previous few years (where you would queue for at least 10 mins watching laborious pouring/payment-handling.) It's pretty good now.
(Nobody seems to know how to pour a Wainwright, though but that just means I have to watch it settle for a couple of minutes..)
I also enjoyed a meat-and-onion pie (not something I do often, but I'm a huge fan of Haffners) which was superb. There were quite a few left (Jimmy Mc Upper, just before second half restart)
(But yeah, it kinda meant I had spoiled my tea.)

Re: Burnley FC catering
I never go for food and drink on the Turf but I was walking off yesterday with some young lads (in their 20s) who said it was a nightmare, they had to go in one queue to buy a ticket which could then be exchanged via another queue for a pint. Surely that can't be the case.
Re: Burnley FC catering
I've only seen it in the fanzone, you order at a screen and pick it up at the counter, just like all the major fast food outlets.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 4:38 pmI never go for food and drink on the Turf but I was walking off yesterday with some young lads (in their 20s) who said it was a nightmare, they had to go in one queue to buy a ticket which could then be exchanged via another queue for a pint. I never buy food on the ground, people moan about it, yet still do it, more fool them.
Re: Burnley FC catering
I don't buy it either. But there's nothing wrong with people who want to buy food and/or drink complaining when the service is all too often not up to scratch and want it improving.
Re: Burnley FC catering
Nothing wrong at all.....but dont go back till its improved, which it doesn't appear to have done

Re: Burnley FC catering
Maybe they are hungry ?
Maybe they expect a decent level of food to be available at a place hosting more than 20,000 people ?
Maybe based on the large increase in prices in the last few years and the club announcing a new partnership with catering contractors they thought it might improve ?

Use a local business outside the ground if hungryBig Vinny K wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:17 pmMaybe they are hungry ?

No good expecting a better level of food if the reviews are crap
Just dont use the service

Re: Burnley FC catering
Very rarely use these days, but had travelled 4.5 hours Sunday morning without eating so ordered Pie peas and gravy. Was asked if I wanted the pie removing from it's foil container before peas and gravy added, bit odd ? Then proceeded to offer payment which was ignored as server was then talking to next customer. So,free food at the Turf, just don't eat the foil.
Re: Burnley FC catering
No such thing in the JHU at ht. You just join the queue, get to the front after queuing 10 minutes, to be told that there's no pies left!

Re: Burnley FC catering
Hence why I said I'd only seen the system Tony was talking about, in the fanzone.
I thought I'd read on here it was operational in other areas, but not buying anything in the ground, I wouldn't know
They've been running out of pies before half time since the year dot.

Bring back the bee hole end toilets and the warm beer from the top of the Longside kioskClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:16 pmBut the fan experience just gets better and better they’d have you believe.

Re: Burnley FC catering
Well if that's the case, you would have thought that by now they'd be better at estimating likely pies required to avoid running out!Row x wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 9:32 pmHence why I said I'd only seen the system Tony was talking about, in the fanzone.

The screen ordering system has been in operation on The JML for a couple of seasons now and it works great.
They could do with pouring a few more drinks before half time though

Re: Burnley FC catering
There were no peas left in the JHU by 1:45pm, which seems bizarre. Isn’t hard - peas, gravy and mash costs nowt so you make sure you have plenty and no customer gets disappointed. Baffles me how they mess it up.
But on the plus side the mash portion was double what it was for Sunderland, which was ridiculously minuscule, like 1 ice cream scoop.
I would never drink beer on the Turf though, given they serve no decent ale and even if they did it’d be over triple the cost of the New Brewm.

Re: Burnley FC catering
They tried when hollands pies sponsored us....and had to give loads away when we were leaving the ground, its not a new problem.
Lots of outlets away from the ground if someone is desperate for a pie.
Re: Burnley FC catering
The fact they've never managed it, over numerous seasons, suggests it might be.
Gives people another thing to moan about.
A couple near us, buy a pie just before kick off, and eat it towards halftime....avoids queues, and guarantees them a pie.....
How many people do you see actually buying a pie at halftime? ( when available)
Re: Burnley FC catering
Just because they haven't previously been able to estimate likely take up, doesn't mean that it can't be done.Row x wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:11 pmThe fact they've never managed it, over numerous seasons, suggests it might be.

If more people just bought a pie before KO it just means that they'll run out sooner!

Obviously I've only been able to see them when they've been able to buy one!

It possibly can be done, but history tells us we struggle..Leisure wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:37 pmJust because they haven't previously been able to estimate likely take up, doesn't mean that it can't be done.![]()

I go to the loo at ht, see people drinking, but not eating pies, even when available. I think you are over estimating the demand.

I clearly said in my post... even when available...Claret Till I Die wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:56 pmHave you checked to see if there's any available to buy?
Re: Burnley FC catering
Which bit?
Nobody eating pies at ht?....my own eyes, when there's plenty in the cabinets.
The fact we've struggled in the past to estimate demand?...going home with free pies they had to give away at full time having not sold them
Re: Burnley FC catering
Getting a bit silly now. So are you saying that you check all the food outlets at HT to check on the no of pies still available? When was the last time free pies were given out? Certainly not under the current regime I'll guess.
Re: Burnley FC catering
It is getting silly if you think that's what somebody does, but I walk past the kiosk on my way to the loo, and see the pies ready for sale, but nobody eating them.....it might be different in other stands, but I'm only commenting on what I've seen, it would be silly to comment on things I hadn't seen
I've already said earlier when they gave free pies out, trying to show that we've struggled for years to gauge how many will be sold, so if we've struggled that long its obviously not an easy thing to do, however much people, who've never done it, think it is.
