I thought he blew too early on a number of occasions, so decision making 15, but actually came across as competent and neutral (nice change).

A bit whistle up and too eager to stop play but generally did most things fairly well

Ridiculous yellow for Florentino then failed to card Morata when he almost scythed Foster in 2.

He needlessly carded Florentino early which unfortunately SHOULD have put him in a corner when it comes to similar challenges as it does with many refs, but he then just allowed several similar challenges by Forest to go unpunished. Poor reffing imo and yet I thought he reffed well overall.

A couple of incidents summed it up today:
* Kyle walker is allowed to change his boots because our keeper has a lie down
* Lyle Foster is blatantly pulled back and not only is the defender not carded, no free kick is given and play isn't brought back
* Gibbs-White screams in the referee's face because he disagrees with a decision. Dissent? Booking? No, of course not.
A very typical modern refereeing performance. The game being effectively managed by the players and the official playing an incidental role.
In terms of his general performance he started off favouring Forest and as we grew into the game, decisions started coming our way too.

I thought the only big decision he had today was whether Foster was pulled back having got beyond the defender after about an hour. Thr incident ended with a free kick to Burnley by the corner flag, bur there looked to be a clear foul on Foster previously when he got beyond the defender and powered into the box. If so, it was probably a red card as well because the lad was the last man.
I may have misinterpreted the incident but it looked like a similar sort of foul to Anthony's at Old Trafford- only not given on the pitch or on VAR.

I think there was a covering defender so a red would have been harsh but 'no free kick' was an awful "decision".

That defender did not look to me to be likely to stop Foster getting a shot away.

Inconsistent with the small offences again. The early yellow was a shocker for a nothing foul - it really does a number on our midfield and hinders us. He then sacked it off for similar fouls and allowed Forest players to do as they liked. If he's consistent there were three cards for Forest in the first half. He's missed Luiz having arms wrapped Florentino in the box for a set piece - ****** off with the harsh pens against us. Second half foul on Fozzy should have seen more. MGW got away with a rant so that's a reduction for control\authority.

It was 100% a foul on Foster who was trying to burst into the area. Not even a free kick to our Forest favouring friend.
No major decisions to impact upon the game today but many many soft free kicks in Forest’s favour whilst ignoring any similar fouls on Burnley players.
Didn’t even give a card when their player dived to handball it as we tried to break out of defence late on.
Their players were in the refs ear for most of the game.

Yes, we have to learn how to manage the referees like the established PL sides have.

We're going to have to, sadly.
But we shouldn't have to.

Has anyone else noticed that the ratings and more especially the comments of several contributors on these threads are more a reflection of the result rather than the performance referee: Good if we win, moderate for the draws and ratshit whenever we lose; maybe it's the degree of claret tinting in their specs?

Just in case you might be thinking of me with that reference - i gave stinking marks when we beat Sunderland and provided a lengthy explanation.

Under modern rules as applied by modern refs, it wasn't a foul because Foster didn't fall over screaming.
I think the ref was adequately summed up by the last few seconds. First of all he gave a free kick against Hannibal for challenging for a header when the Forest man lay on the floor crying because he had been touched; then he told the goalkeeper three or four times to move the ball back, and eventually let him get on with it because the keeper refused; then he added extra time of purely for Forest's benefit because they wanted to make sure the free kick was the last action.

It does sometimes look that way but history (twenty seasons) generally shows it to be anything but.
Take the top two referees in the table.
Top spot…we’ve not won a single game with him reffing.
Then look at Oliver in 2nd…a huge proportion of those games gave ended in Burnley NOT winning.

Just another really poor referee for this level. The booking of Florentino was ridiculous, it’s just a collision and set such a low bar it was inexplicable that Forest got no cards in the 1st half, let alone until the 92nd minute.
Another who is happy to let players take the **** out of him as well, their fella putting in 5-6 rolls to get our man booked, then getting up and taking the free kick, no problem. The Douglas Luis dive was another good one. It’s mad how standards are still so low but it’s largely down to the fact that referees manager the referees. It won’t get better until that changes.

The Foster foul was truly awful and did everything to promote cheating. He throws himself to the floor "having felt contact (actually being totally manhandled)" and he gets the freekick but he tried to keep his feet, be honest and he gets nothing. I hate the diving/cheating in the game but decisions like this prove you have to do it to ensure you get the foul. It really does stink.

He was pretty good to be fair, but we were probably all comparing him to Oliver last Sunday, who really should have turned up in the Liverpoo green shirt.

Why would he turn up in a Liverpool shirt when he is a Newcastle fan? Surely, if he is as bad as you think, he would be favouring teams playing against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, City etc. so that the Toon would have a chance of winning the league.
Perhaps he just referees what he sees and does it fairly because he upsets fans from all teams every week, just as every other official does.
