The traffic lights at the Fire Station.

Post by beddie » Sat Sep 20, 2025 7:25 pm

Chaos today. Cars were backing up in the middle of the road at the lights (just before the Fire Station) because the guy on duty in the road would go to the vehicle wanting to drive through, speak with them then walk back and move his cone but as soon as that vehicle is let through he’s put his cone back down and it’s a repeat process. It sounds a quick and simple process but the cone attendant just strolled around whilst tempers flared. Besides cars backing up in the middle of the road the other three lanes had cars (Ormerod road) that couldn’t move but then the lights would change which made it even more difficult as again nothing could move. I asked the chap opening and closing the road what is the purpose of doing it, the road is closed anyway at the far end of Belvedere road leading onto Harry Potts Way, I told him you’ve not thought it out, you were turning some cars around in the middle of the road at the lights which was difficult due to cars being bumper to bumper. if you’d have put this closure further down let’s say just after the cricket club then cars wanting to go down holcombe drive, and to the cricket and tennis club could continue to do that, any cars that had come through at the lights realising they’d come the wrong way could simply do a full u-turn as there’s no traffic coming towards them due to it being closed anyway at the far end of Belvedere road. I really don’t get it. Does anyone know who’s in charge of this as I’d like to write to them. The chap moving the cone had the Burnley badge on his bright coloured waterproof so assumed it’s the club.

It's ludicrous that the match day parkers on Holcombe Drive, the local residents, and the cricket club visitors completely block the flow of traffic as you describe- I was only walking past , but I couldn't believe the absolute lack of common sense applied to this.

It's absolutely ridiculous but it is the club stewards who are doing it and I'm aware of one person not being able to park at the tennis club today because of this.

It's not a police matter but I've informed the police who are going to take it up with the club.

This supposed wonderful improvement to matchday experience is making things difficult for most of us, one way or another.

The changes to getting in and out of the ground are shambolic in my opinion. I can walk past the away fans coaches and past the away fans but I can’t walk down to the ground next to the cricket club in case I walk next to away fans. The away player coaches create a bottle neck outside the James Hargreaves which just made everyone get even wetter today. They think it creates a better atmosphere but I don’t think it does and is just damn inconvenient for a lot of fans.

It’s fine at the lights. Drive towards them with confidence and tell them your going to the tennis club.

If only it was as simple as that. Incidentally you omitted to add a smiler.

They have no legal right to stop people driving on Belvedere Road to Holcombe Drive. Just keep going.

Just for information, the club stewards do not have the authority to close roads without permission. The police 100% know about it.

Just checked. I didn’t miss anything but thanks for asking.

There’s nothing difficult about getting through at the fire station.

Felt sorry for that steward at the lights. Cars coming from 3 directions and as people have said, once you get a couple in quick succession it’s blocking the junction up.

Madness when there’s already a road block further down anyway.

Yeah, it looked chaotic as I was walking down to the ground.

The club have made a rod for their own back with this. Closing Harry Potts Way is fine. Other than the football club, there’s not really much on it.

Trying to close a half-mile stretch of road to all-but those who require access, when that list potentially runs into several hundred people and there’s no real way of vetting it, is just a bit naive.

I’ve noted from what CT has said that the Police are aware of this but thought I’d drop Lancashire Police an email about our own experience from yesterday which was to say the least dreadful.
