We had the same number of points last time but a worse goal difference. We were higher up the league though. We had also just drawn 1-1 at Forest in our fifth game.

Even had we lost in the dying stages again today, which I’m sure most were fearing, there was so much more to get behind. A group of players on the same wavelength with tremendous work rate, ability on and off the ball, and clearly a game plan.

Precisely that, building a bit of a siege atmosphere at times and as you say, giving us something to get behind.

Think a little bit of luck of the draw with timing/fixtures can make a big difference over the course of a season, e.g. if you get to play an out-of-sorts Wolves or West Ham at a time when confidence is low and prior to a change in form (normally due to a managerial change) then it gets points on the board and gives your own squad/fans a huge boost in belief.

Not to belittle the performances either of Sunderland or Leeds who have competitive squads (with some strong recruitment) and will both be relatively tough places for teams to visit. Credit to both sides.

Agree with this. It’s a shame we’ve not played against any of the crisis clubs so far.

I suspect both the current West Ham & Wolves managers might be different by the time we face them.

I think the potential to pickup points is greater than last season, as a few of the bigger clubs are not as good.

I'm not sure at present we are doing better than expected. I'd say that 4 points at this stage is about what you'd have been anticipating - and whilst is good to see us have a clear identity and be competitive, i expected that from a Parker team.

It certainly could be worse, because neither of the games we've taken points from have gone entirely our own way, but equally it could be better (given, in particular, that United have been no more than a mid table side over the past few years and we even managed a point there under Kompany.

My prediction at the start of this season (and we'll see if it still holds at the end of the season) would be that Sunderland and ourselves would stop up with Leeds being relegated.

There's a couple of teams in the prem who have been circling the drain for a while and have only been saved by extremely naive sides coming into the division.
