O/T First full day in Burnley for 7 years

Spent my first full day in Burnley for 7 years. Here are my observations
1. Less Pubs More Coffee shops
2. Seems cleaner and more security around the mall
3. Taxi Drivers ignore red signals
4. People wander across the road, ignoring traffic - normal people and kids not drunks
5. Less Eastern Europeans, more West Africans ?????
6. Traffic is horrendous, especially near the college - who planned this shambles
7. How many supermarkets does the town need.
8. The women are still terrifying

I still can’t get my head around how a coffee can cost more than a pint of beer.

Not that surprising. You need to grow coffee beens as you do hops. You have to source it and transport it etc. It takes longer for a barrista to make a speciality coffee than it does to pour a pint from a pump. It’s still much cheaper though than a beer in most pubs.

You forgot the explosion in nail bars, Turkish barbers, convenience stores, takeaways and hmo.

Traffic is horrendous everywhere. The road network is simply not able to cope with the amount of cars this country has. The country is fuller than Barley on a sunny day.

I still can’t get my head around how a coffee can cost more than a pint of beer.

I think this is an anomaly in Burnley. There can't be many places (barring Wetherspoons) across the UK where beer is as cheap as it is in Burnley. Even going a few miles up the road to Barlick, it's a good 1.50 a pint more expensive for a pint of bitter than the likes of the New Brewm etc

Burnley is 100 times better than anywhere else if you have a full day to spend in a town for things to do in the area and surrounding areas.

Clitheore and all other smaller similar towns

Nice places but limited in comparison ... eveything they have, burnley does to , apart from a Castle but Burnley has Townley Hall

If i need anything more I go to Manchester and again Burnley has a direct train to it ....

I live in Boston spa near wetherby, moved from
Leeds in December. Left Burnley 15 years ago and rarely go back other than for football or to see mates.

If it wasn’t for my wife being from over here, and the local
Schools being good, I’d have moved back to Burnley long ago.

Yes it’s rough as a badgers ar5e in some areas, and a bit run down in places, but it has a lot of pros which far outweigh the cons.

For a start I could afford a much larger house in a nice area for what I paid over here. Beers is generally cheaper. The people are the friendliest and most honest.

I love cycling and fell running. It’s flat where I live and takes me 40 mins to get to any hills in ilkley, and over an hour to get to the dales. I’d love to live so near to pendle hill, and the moors that surround Burnley.

Admittedly where I live now is a nicer place to bring up the kids, and the high schools in Burnley were terrible last time I checked.

Also the price of fish and chips in Burnley is about half the price I pay in leeds or wetherby

Too many coffee shops? People getting up off their arse and opening a business or working for one - how dare they. If there isn't demand, they won't be around for long, but why have a pop at those who are willing to earn a living? Sounds like a fourth-gen feckless mindset to me.

Actually had a coffee in what used to be the red lion??? £2.48 and excellent coffee. I think it's part of the new food hall and hotel.

It's a quid a coffee sometimes during the week. I almost feel cheeky going to meet people for drink there.

The coffee shops on St James's St are relatively busy from early morning to late afternoon.

Point 5. Agreed on the more west Africans but there’s a lot more Eastern European's, have a look round Lidl up duke bar or a walk round town and listen to the languages.

From recent experiences in Italy, it's about €5/6 for a pint or a 'birra media' as they call it. As Tribesman says, it's about 400ml, or just over, so not a proper pint.
