Jimmy Dunne scored the opener in a 2-0 win against Watford

When kick off times are brought forward to 12 noon it is usually because of live television coverage of the game, but that’s not the case today as the Clarets face Cardiff City in the Premier League Cup at the Turf.

With the temperatures in Burnley currently just below zero, it is going to be the first time this season we’ve needed the under soil heating system on ready for our second group game in the competition.

We had to beat first Bournemouth and then Watford in qualifying games to get into the groups but with the second round of games already underway only a win today will take us off the bottom.

Sunderland lead the way with four points from two games and they are followed by Blackburn who are on three points. Cardiff, with one point, and ourselves, have played just once and we currently are looking for our first point while Cardiff picked up one from a draw against Sunderland.

There is no team news as yet but each team is permitted to play up to three over age outfield players plus a goalkeeper. Whether Burnley opt to do that remains to be seen. In the Bournemouth game the only over age player was Tom Anderson while against Watford we included Jon Flanagan and Kevin Long, who was sent off, as well as goalkeeper Nick Pope. In the first group game it was only goalkeeper Pope included.

It’s 12 noon kick off at the Turf with the Bob Lord opened. Admission is free to season card holders, otherwise it is £4 adults and £2 concessions with tickets available at the ticket office windows.
