Tuesday saw the under-18s beat Fleetwood in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup and tomorrow morning it’s a cup fixture again with a home game against Everton in the U18 Premier League Cup.

With the reduced season in 2020/21, this is the first time we’ve played in this competition, and we have fixtures to come against Arsenal and West Ham in the next couple of months, but it’s Everton first who are in the same league as ourselves.

Last season, the two league games but ended in away wins. Everton won 3-2 at Leyland with Sam Unwin and Joe McGlynn scoring our goals but at Finch Farm a Joe Smyth-Ferguson goal was enough to give us a 1-0 win. Even so, Tony Philliskirk admitted: “Whenever you play Everton, you know what you’re going to get. They’ve got an outstanding academy with some outstanding players in it, managed by some very good staff too. We’re expecting a very tough game.”

The game is being played at Gawthorpe and kicks off at 11 a.m.
