A week ago, Burnley were next to bottom in the northern group of the Professional Development League with one point from two games, but last Friday’s win at Colchester United has seen us move up four places in the table to sixth.

League leaders Sheffield United were the team without a game in this week as north travelled south with our under-21s the only team to come home with a victory. Barnsley, Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday earned draws at Cardiff, Charlton and Bournemouth but all of Coventry, Crewe, Fleetwood, Hull, Peterborough and Wigan suffered defeats.

For both Birmingham and Fleetwood, it was an opportunity missed to go top. Birmingham’s draw took them within one point of the top, but Fleetwood kicked off their game at QPR on maximum points, needing just a draw to go above the inactive Blades but came home with a 2-0 defeat.

QPR have made a good start to the season. That’s four wins out of four now ahead of their game against Burnley this week. They are currently two points clear of Millwall.

Charlton are bottom of the south group with two points from their four games. Two points would see them third from bottom in the north. Wigan have just the one point from their three games while Peterborough are pointless from four games in which they’ve conceded fifteen goals, four more than any other team.

Marsh and Marsh still lead the scoring charts. Both have scored six with Sheffield United’s Louie having hit hat tricks in their first two games this season. He won’t be scoring any more hat tricks for them this season, or any further goals; the 19-year-old has joined Doncaster on a season long loan.

Attention now turns to the next fixtures as north play host to south. There are two games this Friday, including ours against QPR, with five next Tuesday to complete the week.

The player featured this week is right-back Alex Healy-Byrne.
