Central defender Richard Nartey has today joined League Two club Mansfield Town on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Nartey joined Burnley early last season having been released by Chelsea. Although he’d never played first team football there he’d been on loan at Burton in 2019/20 and made 25 League One appearances before the season aborted.

Having joined Burnley, he impressed in the under-23s during last season and earned himself a new deal until the end of this season with Burnley having the option of extending that deal by a further year.

He’s played in this season’s opening Premier League 2 games and scored in the 3-2 defeat against Sunderland on Monday last week. He’ll now join Mansfield and hope to gain more experience in their team under the management of Nigel Clough who was in charge at Burton during Nartey’s time there.

Mansfield have started the season with two wins, a draw and two defeats and currently sit seventh in the table, just inside the play-off positions.

On completing the move, Clough said: “Richard has experience in League One and spent an extended period of time with Chelsea prior to that. In the last ten months, he’s benefited greatly training with Burnley’s first team. He’s a good centre-half, with pace and reads the game well,”
