Match day in the Four Kings

Last March, New Zealand Clarets met for the first ever time as supporters from both islands arrived in Auckland for the weekend to coincide with last season’s home draw against Spurs in March.

It was a huge success with them vowing to repeat the event later in the year but that was scuppered somewhat with the pandemic. However, they’ve been working away and now have plans in place for the second get together next month on the weekend we play West Ham which is currently scheduled for Saturday, 16th January.

They are heading south this time from Auckland but will remain on the North Island, right on the southern tip at the capital Wellington over the three day period when.

It all starts on the Friday with Clarets arriving through the afternoon and early evening. In true football supporter style they will be meeting at a pub and curry house at the recommendation of Wellington based member Paul Dicken who is making all the arrangement.

To continue with the sporting theme, after meeting in the morning, it is off to the races at Trentham in the afternoon for a big day of horse racing before heading back into Wellington and the Whistling Sisters Pub which, I am told, has great ale and amazing food right in the heart of the city. They have a special guest too in the evening, virtually of course, but former Burnley striker Andy Payton will be joining them.

Sunday is match day and the venue from 9:30 a.m. is the Four Kings where they are set to meet up with the Kiwi Hammers to watch the game when we all hope it will be the Lancashire version of claret and blue who are picking up the points and it will be our New Zealand Clarets who are enjoying their journey home, and looking forward to the next meeting which is going to be in the South Island.

If you are in New Zealand and would like to join up with the group for part of or the whole weekend, or if you would just like more information about the new supporters group, please head over to our Supporters Clubs Directory where you will find all their contact information.
