The New Zealand Clarets have made a superb gesture and donated the proceeds from a raffle they held at the meet up earlier this year to the foodbank at Burnley Community Kitchen.

The foodbank has been supported by Burnley FC Supporters Groups since the beginning of the 2019/20 season. It started with the collections on match days with donations and the placement of bins since the pandemic struck over a year ago.

The New Zealand Clarets were very keen to play their part and have sent £140 to the Supporters Groups to forward to the foodbank having enjoyed a successful raffle with Andy Payton, who joined them via a video link, donating a signed shirt as one of the prizes.

Burnley FC in the Community are aware the money is on the way and are delighted with this latest support from our supporters.

Tony Scholes, speaking on behalf of Burnley FC Supporters Groups, said: “We are so grateful to the New Zealand Clarets for this donation. It’s been a difficult year for ‘Clarets for Foodbanks’ since the collections were forced to stop with home games being played behind closed doors but the response from our member groups has been heart warming.

“I’d like to send sincere thanks to our friends at New Zealand Clarets for this wonderful donation and would, in particular, wish to send my personal thanks to Tom Greenwood and Keiron Monks who made all the arrangements to send the donation from New Zealand.

“It’s been really enthusing to see the New Zealand Clarets grow over the past year and we wish them the very best ahead of their next meeting which will be the first on the South Island.”
