No game for the under-21s after Hull postponement
Fleetwood won 4-0 at Coventry on Tuesday this week and that took them above us in the Professional Development League with our game at Hull called off on the same day.
That result has taken Fleetwood to fifth in the table but they didn’t have the biggest win in the north, that went to Wigan who beat Barnsley 5-0. It’s a third win in four for Wigan who have now pulled well clear of the bottom place they’d previously occupied. Two of their goals were scored by Youssef Chentouf who has moved into the scoring charts; their fourth goal a few minutes by half time was scored by James Carragher the son of the former Liverpool and England player.
Sheffield United surprisingly beat Peterborough by just one goal and it kept them four points clear of local rivals Sheffield Wednesday who beat Crewe to remain second.
There are new leaders in the south. Millwall went into the week’s games on top but were beaten at Bournemouth who have now gone above them, but it’s QPR on top now after their 3-2 win against Cardiff.
There was a big win in this group too with Swansea beating Charlton 5-0 and one of their goals was scored by Kyle Naughton who played against us in the Championship play-off final for Sheffield United back in 2009.
There are nine games scheduled this week with our home game against leaders Sheffield United kicking it off tomorrow with a 12 noon start at Leyland. The Blades play on Tuesday too at home to Wigan.
UPDATE: The Sheffield United game will now be played at Gawthorpe.
The player featured this week is goalkeeper Sam Waller.
