White smoke bellows out from the side of the Bob Lord stand when the under soil heating is switched on and there was speculation that we could watch out for the white smoke when we were linked with Charlton goalkeeper Nick Pope.

However, Richard Cawley from the South London Press has confirmed that we’ve had an offer of £900,000 turned down by Charlton and have indicated we will not be going back in with a higher offer for a goalkeeper who would be understudy to Tom Heaton.

Daniel Bentley, another target, has recently signed for Brentford so the Clarets will presumably now have to look elsewhere to add a third goalkeeper alongside Heaton and Paul Robinson who recently signed a new one year deal.

Robinson is the only senior goalkeeper out in France with the squad and the 36-year old former England stopper said yesterday: “I had four or five months (at Burnley last season) and it was a great time to be a part of the club. It’s been an upward curve and we secured promotion without losing a game while I’ve been here, so I’ll take full credit for that.

“But, seriously, I was more than happy to sign when the manager offered me another year. I’ve been challenging Tom since I came here, and at the same time helping him.

“This is my 21st pre-season, but I am enjoying it very much. Hopefully I’ll get a game on Friday and then, with Tom having been given a bit of extra time for the Euros, I’ll maybe get the next few games as well before he comes in and gets his games towards the end of pre-season.”
