Michael Obafemi is the latest player to move out of Turf Moor and he has returned to the Championship and joined Millwall on loan until the end of the season.

The striker had been a target for Vincent Kompany in the summer of 2022 but Swansea prevented the move although then allowed him to join us on a loan deal in January last year. He went on to make twelve substitute appearances for us in the second half of last season, scoring twice, the first of which was the late equaliser against Watford. He also made two FA Cup appearances, one of which has proved to be his only Burnley start in the fifth round against Fleetwood.

A hamstring injury picked up on international duty in the summer ruled him out at the beginning of the season but he made his Premier League bow for us at Arsenal with just one appearance since, also as a substitute, in the big 5-0 win against Sheffield United.

In recent weeks he hasn’t even made the bench and so it comes as no surprise to see him move out on a temporary basis. Alex Aldridge, Millwall Director of Football Operations and Recruitment, said: “Michael is a player who can add a new, exciting dynamic to the squad and we are really pleased to welcome him to the club. Heading into this transfer window, adding additional strength to our attacking areas was one of our main objectives, and when Michael became available on loan, we felt we had a great opportunity to sign a forward who has proven his quality at this level. With experience from the top two divisions, he has shown a great desire to join the club. We look forward to seeing him in a Millwall shirt.”

We wish him well during his time at Millwall.
