Scott Oldham will referee Burnley for the first time when he takes charge of tonight’s FA Cup replay against Ipswich Town.

Oldham, a kitchen fitter from Poulton-le-Fylde, was promoted to the Football League ahead of the 2017/18 season and his first game, in August 2017, was the League Two game between Cheltenham and Crawley. A week later, he showed his first red card when he dismissed Grimsby’s Sam Jones at Stevenage.

Now in his sixth season, he’s still to referee a game above League One level and generally alternates between League One and League Two games. He has refereed Ipswich once this season. That was back in September when they were beaten 2-1 by Plymouth at Home Park.

Tonight will be his 26th game of the season and in the previous 25 there have been 78 yellow cards and just the one red card. Of those yellows, 31 have gone to home team players with 47 to away team players. The one red card came last month in the top of the table clash in League Two between Stevenage, where he showed his first red card, and Leyton Orient. It was Leyton Orient’s Idris El Mizouni who saw red in this game, receiving a second yellow.

His only game since was in League One last Saturday, Shrewsbury’s 1-0 win at Oxford. Both teams had one player carded, Oxford’s Elliott Moore and Shrewsbury’s Jordan Shipley.

Fourth official tonight is Select Group 2 official Matt Donohue. He hasn’t refereed a Burnley game as yet but was in Championship action last night, refereeing the game between Blackburn and Wigan.
