Oliver back in the middle for a Burnley game
Michael Oliver has been involved with quite a number of Burnley games recently as either fourth official or on VAR, but tomorrow at Crystal Palace he’s back in the middle for only the second time with us this season having previously refereed the home game against Tottenham.
It’s probably a positive that he’s not refereeing a game at the Turf given that we’ve lost each of the last seven home games he’s refereed. The last time we picked up points with him refereeing at home was early in the 2017/18 season when he took charge of our 1-0 win against tomorrow’s opponents. He also refereed the clash between us that season at Selhurst Park which Palace won 1-0. Our one win with him refereeing since that Palace home game was last season’s victory by the same score at West Ham.
He has refereed 17 games this season in which there have been 58 yellow and two red cards. A total of 33 of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with 25 to away team players. The first player he sent off this season was Richarlison in the Merseyside derby at Goodison. He also dismissed Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey in a 2-1 win at Aston Villa.
Oliver’s most recent game was Manchester City’s 4-1 win at Liverpool last Sunday. Liverpool had both Fabinho and Thiago yellow carded alongside City’s Rúben Dias.
David Coote will be fourth official tomorrow and his last Burnley game was the Chelsea home game at the end of October. Australian Jarred Gillett is on VAR duty. He’s a select group 2 official and has never refereed a Burnley game.
