Darren England refereed our last away game, the 2-2 draw at the London Stadium against West Ham, and he’s the man in the middle again tomorrow for our Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Having had a difficult season with some seriously poor decisions on VAR duty, including the disallowing of Lyle Foster’s goal at Nottingham Forest, he’s spent a lot of the season away from the Premier League. He looks to be back in favour now with his last four games, including ours at West Ham, coming in the top flight and tomorrow makes five. In fairness, he had a decent enough game at the London Stadium. His total of yellow cards has gone up to 117 in 21 domestic games with 53 of them going to home team players and 64 to away team players. None of his red cards have come in the Premier League this season. He’s sent off Middlesbrough’s Anfernee Dijksteel and Leicester’s Issahaku Fatawu in Championship games and West Ham’s Said Benrahma in their FA Cup defeat at Bristol City.

His only game since ours at West Ham was the Premier League game between Luton and Nottingham Forest at Kenilworth Road. Luton had Issa Kaboré yellow carded in that game alongside Forest pair Matz Sels and Harry Toffolo.

Fourth official tomorrow at Stamford Bridge is James Bell and the only occasion he’s refereed Burnley was back in August 2022 for our 5-1 win at WIgan. John Brooks is on VAR duty; his last Burnley game was the 6-0 FA Cup defeat at Manchester City last season.
