O’Neill in Spain with Aussies
All the international news this week has been about Michael Keane, one of seven Burnley players called up for international duty for their respective countries.
Keane was alongside Tom Heaton in the England squad while we have three players currently with the Republic of Ireland. Two of them, Stephen Ward and Jeff Hendrick played last night in a game that also featured Sam Vokes for Wales with Robbie Brady sitting it out with a suspension.
The seventh is Scott Arfield who was in the Canada side that drew 1-1 against Scotland in Edinburgh. He was replaced by Charlie Trafford in the fourth minute of stoppage time with an injury.
One other Burnley player is also with his country this week. Aiden O’Neill has been called up for a training camp in Spain with the Australian under-23 squad. It’s a nine day camp which started last Monday in the Mercia region. They are at the Pinatar Arena and there will be two training matches during the nine days against Austria and FInland’s national under-21 teams.
There will be a familiar face too for O’Neill, who has been called up for the first time, with goalkeeper Dan Nizic, released by the Clarets at the end of last season and now at Morecambe, also called up.
O’Neill and Nizic are two of eight English based players in the squad.Share this page :
