Pawson quickly back at the Turf for Manchester City game
Craig Pawson handed Wolves a point against us with a stoppage time penalty some over two and a half years ago. We haven’t seen much of him since but he takes charge of our game tomorrow against Manchester City.
He refereed our game at Aston Villa last season and the home game against Watford as recently as seven weeks ago, but they are the only two Burnley games he’s refereed since that day in the heat at Wolves in August 2019.
This season, he’s refereed a total of 23 games in domestic football with three of those in the two cup competitions and the other twenty in the Premier League. In those games he’s found cause to show his yellow card in 92 occasions with a couple of red cards thrown in.
Of those yellows, 42 have gone the way of home team players along with fifty away team players. Early in the season he sent off Leeds defender Pascal Struijk in their 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool. More recently Everton’s Allan received a red card from him following a visit to the pitch side monitor for a VAR review after he’d, rightly in my view, decided that it was not worthy of a red card. Everton went on to beat Newcastle 1-0. That was his most recent Premier League game in which he also yellow carded Everton duo Richarlison and Anthony Gordon and Newcastle’s Emil Krafth.
Fourth official tomorrow is Michael Salisbury from Preston who is still to referee a Burnley game. Jon Moss has refereed three of our games this season, most recently the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace. He will be on VAR duty.
