He was, of course, the referee for our away game at Chelsea last season when he sent off two home players during our superb 3-2 win there and the heavy defeat against them has been his only game since.

It’s been mixed with him over the years. There have been some awful performances from him but some decent performances too and Ashley Barnes will remember the other occasion he sent off two players in one game; he was the second to go when he reduced Brighton to nine men back in 2011.

Those mixed performances have taken him into 12th place in RATE THE REF with a rating of 63.72 out of 100.

This season he’s refereed 22 domestic games in which there have been 75 yellow and four red cards. of those yellows, 41 have gone to home team players with 34 to away team players. Three of those four red cards came in his first four games of the season; the only one since was Willy Boly who was sent off in Wolves’ 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.

His last game came twelve days ago, the Europa League clash between Olympiacos and Dynamo Kiev, while his last domestic game was Crystal Palace’s 1-1 home draw against West Ham. All three yellow cards that day went to Palace players, namely Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur.

The assistant referees are Ian Hussin and Eddie Smart. The fourth official is Lee Mason whose last Burnley game was our 3-0 win at West Ham last season.
