1819 burnley tony philliskirk 01 500x500The first team have been busy with the Christmas fixtures but it is never the same for the junior teams which means the youth team will play a league game tomorrow for the first time in four weeks when we take on Sheffield Wednesday at Gawthorpe.

It signals Tony Philliskirk’s first game in charge. He took on the role of coach prior to the last two games of 2018, that league game against Hull four weeks ago tomorrow and the FA Youth Cup defeat against Oxford three days later, but John Townson remained in charge for those two games.

He couldn’t have had a more difficult start. Wednesday are currently top of the league, ahead of both Nottingham Forest and Leeds on goal difference with us in fourth place but six points behind. Wednesday are the leading goalscorers in the league and also have the best defensive record with only 13 goals conceded in 16 games.

The reverse fixture was played at the beginning of November with a Mitchell George goal nothing other than a consolation in a 4-1 defeat, but we won the corresponding home fixture last season 3-1 with a Jordan Cropper hat trick.

Kick off tomorrow at Gawthorpe is 11 a.m.
