The under-18s had to come from a goal behind to earn a point in a 1-1 home draw against Derby County yesterday afternoon at Gawthorpe.

With Ian Jones in charge, replacing the absent Tony Philliskirk, it was a quiet first half but one in which we should have won when George Walters was brought down in the box only for Derby goalkeeper Alfie Roberts to save Tremaine Eastmond’s spot kick.

It was Derby who went in front just past the hour with a goal from Malcolm Ebiowei, but the point was won with Kian Le Fondre’s first goal since his move from Bolton. Joe Bauress’s free kick into the box was headed across goal for Dan Sassi for substitute Le Fondre to score.

The teams were;

Burnley: Charlie Casper, Keelan Williams, Jack Leckie, Dan Sassi, Dane McCullough, Sean Etaluku, Will Hugill, Jacson Coppack, George Walters (Joe Bauress 58), Tremaine Eastmond (Kade Ratchford 69), Joe Smyth-Ferguson (Kian Le Fondre 69). Subs not used: Nathan James, Will Couch.

Derby: Alfie Roberts, Callum Moore, Rhys Brailsford, Nelson Aideyan (Riley Moloney ht), Darren Robinson, Adebayo Fapetu, Carlos Peliza Richards, Olamide Ibrahim, Sam Sebagabo, Reece Nicholas Davies, Malcolm Ebiowei. Subs not used: Harry Evans, Zion Dixon.
