Pope has another big night against Villa
Nick Pope strengthened his claims to becoming player of the year with another outstanding performance against Aston Villa, particularly in the first half when we somehow kept the score at just 1-0 down.
He was again in exceptional form and while having a quieter second half, as we came back to win the game 3-2, his performance was worthy of winning him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.
He was man of the match winner by some considerable distance, polling 65% of the vote, way ahead of Dwight McNeil who took second place with 19%. Jack Cork, finally back on Premier League duty as a substitute for the injured Josh Brownhill, secured third place with a 7% share while 3% of the vote won fourth place for Ben Mee.
Those same four players took the same positions in the player ratings too. Cork’s rating was 8.77 out of 10 with McNeil also scoring above eight with 8.26. Cork had a rating of 7.83 with Mee picking up a rating of 7.49 out of 10.
That all means ten points for Pope towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with McNeil winning six votes. Cork has collected four votes with Mee getting two votes.
It’s made a difference at the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table with Pope extending his lead to 22 points but then it’s so close for the next four positions with James Tarkowski in second place just five points ahead of Brownhill who is fifth.
The Chelsea VOTE continues until around 8 p.m. tomorrow night so you have still time to make your choice if you haven’t done so already. The Manchester City vote will be underway soon after that.
