Pope is the Premier League’s best goalkeeper
He might not be able to impress waistcoat wearing international managers but our goalkeeper Nick Pope has more than impressed us and now we know he’s also impressed his fellow players across the Premier League.
Last night, despite some fantastic competition in the league, it was confirmed he had won a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, and that’s based on votes from his fellow professionals.
That really is some achievement for a player at Burnley in this league and when you look at some of that competition you realise just how fortunate we’ve been in recent years with having some top class goalkeepers to call upon.
Liverpool, rightly, have dominated this year’s team with five of the eleven players. That city hosts one of the league’s top goalkeepers too and I certainly don’t mean the one who plays at Goodison Park. But Alisson on the other side of Stanley Park is an outstanding goalkeeper as is his fellow Brazilian Ederson at Manchester City.
Dean Henderson had an outstanding season at Sheffield United as did their new signing Aaron Ramsdale, despite him having to keep goal behind a Bournemouth defence which is not the easiest task for any goalkeeper.
So for Pope to get this accolade is something very special, something he must be so proud of and something every Burnley supporter is so proud of.
