Pope, JBG and Collins join the internationals
Two days ago we were able to report that both Wayne Hennessey and Bailey Peacock-Farrell had been called up for international duty; today we can add Nick Pope, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson and Nathan Collins to the group having all received call ups.
Pope is back in the England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland having missed out on the Euros due to requiring surgery, and this having played in the three previous England games. He joins a squad alongside two former Burnley players, Kieran Tripper and former loan player Patrick Bamford who has been called up for the first time.
All three of England’s games are World Cup qualifiers. The first, against Hungary, will be played in the Puskas Arena in Budapest and will be followed by Andorra at Wembley and Poland at Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw.
Guðmundsson is in the Iceland squad. Again it is three World Cup qualifiers against Romania, North Macedonia and finally Germany. All three are home games and all three will be played in Reykjavik.
Finally, a first call up for Nathan Collins with the Republic of Ireland. They start with an away game in Portugal before returning to Dublin to face Azerbaijan and Serbia. Collins will be joined by two former Burnley players who have already played against us this season; former loan player Shane Duffy is in the squad as is Jeff Hendrick.
