After suffering four consecutive Premier League defeats, Burnley got back to winning ways last week with two victories; the first of them coming a week last Sunday against Leicester City at home.

We trailed 1-0 at half time but Nick Pope kept us in it with an outstanding save at the start of the second half and then, after we’d equalised, he denied Jamie Vardy from the penalty spot and gave us the platform to go on and win the game 2-1.

Chris Wood, against his former club, and Ashley Westwood scored the goals but when it came to voting for the man of the match and posting the player ratings, there was only one winner on this particular Sunday and that was Pope.

He polled a terrific 69% of the man of the match vote with no other player reaching double figures. Jeff Hendrick, back on the right hand side of the midfield, was second with 9% of the vote with Charlie Taylor just behind with 8% to take third place. Ashley Westwood was fourth with just a 4% share of the vote.

The same three players took the top three places in the player ratings too although not in exactly the same order. Pope was again the clear winner with a rating of 8.93 out of 10. This time Taylor took second place with 7.85, pushing Hendrick into third place; his rating was 7.51. Phil Bardsley this time claimed fourth place with a rating of 7.48 out of 10.

This result gives Pope the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Both Hendrick and Taylor have won five points with one point each for Bardsley and Westwood. Those points haven’t really made much of a difference although Pope has now joined Dwight McNeil in joint third place with 61 points.

We will have the Manchester United result tomorrow while the Norwich cup tie voting continues. The Leicester result is below, followed by the current player of the year table.
