Burnley’s final away game of the season at Bournemouth tomorrow will be refereed by Lee Probert from Wiltshire for what will be his first Burnley game since September 2013 when he took charge of our 2-1 win at Leeds.

That’s over three and a half years since he last refereed us but he’s missed a lot of football since with injury and is only just finding his way back into the Premier League.

He got through the 2013/14 season, ending it with an international between Nigeria and Scotland, but injury ruled him out from the start of the next season when he wasn’t fit to referee a game until January and had to wait until April for his first Premier League game of the season.

Last season was even worse for Probert who didn’t referee a single game as the injury threaten to end his career but he returned this season although has been forced to work his way back up the leagues.

His season started at Cheltenham, in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient, and he had to wait until December to get a Championship game, refereeing Newcastle’s 3-1 win at Burton.

His Premier League return came only last month. On 1st April he was in charge of the Watford v Sunderland game and two weeks ago it was Stoke v West Ham. Tomorrow will be his third Premier League game of the season.

He’s refereed a total of 29 games this season, which has more than ended any retirement concerns. There have been 65 yellow and four red cards in those games. Of those yellow cards, 26 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players. All four red cards have gone to away team players.

The first time he refereed Burnley was back in the 2004/05 season at Plymouth when had a very poor game, but he had become a very good referee before the injury. His RATE THE REF rating is 68.15 out of 100 and he’s in eighth place.

The assistant referees are Mick McDonough (Northumberland) and Sian Massey-Ellis (West Midlands). The fourth official is Roger East (Wiltshire) whose last Burnley game was the title clinching 3-0 win at Charlton a year ago.
