gawthorpe 2Burnley have a home game against Southampton this Saturday as the 2019/20 Premier League season gets underway, but by then both our under-23s and under-18s will have kicked off their respective seasons with both starting with fixtures against Millwall, the under-23s in two days time and the under-18s on Saturday morning.

Both squads will have new players this season. At under-23 level we’ve signed Joel Senior, Ryan Cooney and Adam Phillips while Bobby Thomas, who featured extensively last season, Kai Calderbank-Park and Will Harris have all moved up from the under-18s.

Steve Stone will be going into his first full season as under-23 coach and it is the same for Tony Philliskirk who came in during last season to take charge of the under-18s following the departure of Danny Cadamarteri. Philliskirk has a new goalkeeper in Lewis Thomas plus ten new first year scholars and he’s likely to dip into the under-16s at times during the season.

This is our third season in the Professional Development League, since we became a Category 2 Academy. It could also be our last with the club hoping to step up to become Category 1.

As in previous seasons we will cover the games as often as possible with previews and reports as well as goal updates via the message board at some games. We will also continue our weekly reviews of each league.

All we need now are the first set of fixtures.
