Rare Turf Moor game for East
Roger East has been a regular with Burnley this season having already refereed our games at Liverpool, Manchester City and Bournemouth but today’s game against Liverpool, meaning he will have refereed both games against them this season, is only his third Turf Moor game.
We didn’t see him at all last season but he was allocated three in a run of five Burnley away games this season, the last at Bournemouth. He was disappointing at Liverpool and no better at Manchester City, but he had a decent enough game at Bournemouth although it wasn’t a difficult game to referee.
His RATE THE REF rating has crept up after the Bournemouth game. It’s now 62.33 out of 100 and he’s still in 15th place.
He has refereed 14 games this season including nine in the Premier League. There have been 49 yellow and two red cards in those games. Of those yellows, 20 have gone to home team players and 29 to away team players. His only Premier League red card was given to Huddersfield’s Christopher Schindler in their 1-0 home win against West Brom at the start of November.
His last game was the 0-0 draw between West Brom and Everton on Boxing Day at the Hawthorns. The two players yellow carded were West Brom’s Craig Dawson and Gareth Barry.
The assistant referees are Mark Scholes (Buckinghamshire) and Mick McDonough (Northumberland). The fourth official is Martin Atkinson (Leeds) whose most recent Burnley game was the 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford six days ago.
