1718 burnley jonathan walters 01 1000x500A Burnley record has been broken this morning with Martin O’Neill naming five of our players in his latest Republic of Ireland squad for two World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and current group leaders Serbia.

The first of the two games is against Georgia at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi on Saturday 2nd September before they return to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to play Serbia who are currently above Ireland at the top of the group with both having 12 points.

Defenders Kevin Long and Stephen Ward, midfielders Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady, along with forward Jonathan Walters have all been named in O’Neill’s squad. As is usually the case with O’Neill, a provisional squad of 39 has been named which will be reduced ahead of the game.

We created a record in the summer when Long was added to the Ireland squad taking the total to five alongside Ward, Hendrick and Brady, but the signing of Walters (pictured) from Stoke has added to our Ireland internationals and today’s news has created yet another club record.
