1819 burnley richard taylor 00 500x500When Michael Fowler signed for Fleetwood Town, he was the first of the released youth team players to win a move to a new club and he’s now been joined by defender Richard Taylor who has signed a contract with League One club Southend United.

Back in early March, eight players were told they would be leaving Burnley and some of them disappeared almost immediately. Taylor went to Southend on trial and has played for both their youth team and under-23s in the Central League and has impressed them enough to win a one year deal with the club for next season having made his debut for them in the under-18s against Swindon four weeks ago.

The Nigerian joined the Clarets on a two year scholarship in July 2017. He didn’t feature much in his first season but stepped up this season and earned himself a loan with Colne.

He returned to feature in the under-23s in the Premier League Cup against West Brom and had an outstanding game in a midfield role but was unable to win an extended stay with the Clarets.

Up the Clarets would like to wish him the very best next season.
