Richardson gets England call
Our under-16 striker Lewis Richardson has today received his first ever England call and will be in the under-16 squad next month for a tournament in Turkey involving three games.
Just five weeks ago and I don’t think too many had heard his name. He’d been in the u18s at Burnley as a substitute but five weeks ago tomorrow got his first start and scored five times in a 6-1 win against Crewe. He added a further goal in the following week and was recently used as a substitute in the FA Youth Cup defeat.
Although from Manchester, he’s been with Burnley since he was a member of the under-8s and is expected to take the permanent step up to the under-18s next season on a scholarship.
Prior to that, he’ll join up with the young England squad on 10th January before flying out to Istanbul two days later. The three games are against Azerbaijan, Moldova and finally hosts Turkey which will be played on 17th.
Up the Clarets send congratulations to Lewis on his call up and wish him the very best with England in Turkey.
