When former Burnley manager Owen Coyle returned from America, I didn’t think there would be another club in England daft enough to appoint him as manager, that was until Blackburn Rovers, our dear friends down the road, opted to take pity on him.

They paid for it, just as Bolton and Wigan had done previously, and they are now floundering in League One after Coyle’s relegation plan worked a treat, even though they didn’t allow him to stay long enough to enjoy the jelly and ice cream.

“That’s it, surely,” I thought about his prospects of ever getting another job, but no, he’s just been appointed manager of Scottish Premiership club Ross County until the end of next season – AND – guess who’s his assistant? Yes, none other than Sandy Stewart.

It gets better. He’ll be appearing and speaking at a supporters meeting tonight. I hope they’ve got their bingo cards ready. They are off to Kilmarnock this Saturday, one of the elite clubs in Scotland. Will they go toe to toe?

More importantly, will clubs ever learn?
