Michael Salisbury will referee tonight’s League Cup tie against Everton at Goodison Park. It will be his second Burnley game this season and his third in total.

He first refereed us at Easter this year for the 2-0 home win against Sheffield United and he was back at the Turf early this season for our 3-1 defeat against Aston Villa which means he will be refereeing us away from home for the first time. However, it will be the first time he’s refereed an Everton game either at Goodison Park or on of their away games.

Now in his third season as a member of the Select Group, he hasn’t moved into the Football League this season. Four of his six games have been in the Premier League; the other two, like tonight’s game, have come in the League Cup.

He’s been quite sparing with his cards too. He’s shown just thirteen yellow cards in those six games of which six have gone to home team players and seven to away team players. The last player he sent off was Sheffield United goalkeeper in that Championship game at Burnley.

His last game was Brighton’s 1-1 draw against Fulham last Sunday in which he carded three Fulham players Antonee Robinson and substitutes Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz.

There is no VAR tonight, mercifully, and the fourth official is Select Group 2 official John Busby who refereed our win at Coventry and the home victory against Wigan last season.
