Burnley’s home game tomorrow against Sunderland will be refereed by Graham Scott (Oxfordshire) for what will be his first Burnley game this season. It will be his fourth Premier League game this season and only his ninth since his first game back in November 2014.

That first game was our 1-1 home draw against Aston Villa. He didn’t have the best of games that day and in his last Premier League game, West Brom v Watford at the beginning of this month, his performance was described by Watford boss Walter Mazzari as terrible, this after he believed he’d sent off the wrong man when Roberto Pereyra got a red card, Mazzari believing it should have been West Brom’s James McClean to get his marching orders.

Just two days ago, Gianfranco Zola hit out at him after he’d given a penalty against them for holding in the box. Zola was unhappy when he heard that Derby had told the referee what was happening after which Scott kept his eye on it and, quite rightly in my view, awarded the spot kick.

He’ll be refereeing us for a ninth time tomorrow and we’ve had some bad games from him, particularly some of the earlier games and in particular a shocking performance from him at Coventry in 2011 when his decisions, particularly the red card shown to Coventry’s Gael Bigirimana, turned the game in our favour.

He did have a reputation as being far too over eager with his cards although the figures are not quite so high now. and we probably shouldn’t expect a Craig Pawson type performance. In 15 games to date he’s given out 55 yellow cards and two red cards.

Of those yellows, 21 have gone to home team players and 34 to away team players. It’s been one each in the red cards with the sending off of Gillingham’s Ryan Jackson in a 1-1 home draw against Bradford City to add to that of Pereyra.

In that last game at Derby, he yellow carded Derby’s Will Hughes and both Michael Morrison and David Davis of Birmingham. Generally I thought he had a decent game and would be happy with that level of performance tomorrow.

Graham Scott is currently 14th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 62 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Richard West (East Riding) and Jake Collin (Merseyside). The fourth official is Mike Dean (Wirral) who refereed our 3-1 defeat at Southampton earlier in the season when he got a bit confused over what was and what wasn’t a penalty.
