Oxfordshire referee Graham Scott refereed our opening day of the season game against Southampton and he’s back at the Turf tomorrow just eight weeks on for the visit of Everton.

I was somewhat critical of his performance when we beat Southampton 3-0. It was over missing what should have been a red card and I did suggest he was as bad a referee as you can possibly get in the Premier League. I do now take that back; I saw Lee Mason’s performance last week at Villa Park.

I still don’t think his performance, overall, was good enough, and it did reduce his rating on RATE THE REF slightly where he now sits 13th out of 18 with a rating of 63.93 out of 100 from fourteen qualifying games.

In his early days, he was notable for his excessive number of cards, but he’s calmed down somewhat now. There were no cards at all in that Southampton game but he’s handed our 14 yellows and one red in his four games since, three of them in the Premier League and one a League Cup tie. Six of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with eight to away team players.

He refereed Southampton for a second time this season a week ago. He yellow carded two of their players, Maya Yoshida and Jan Bednarek, in a 2-1 defeat at Spurs who saw Serge Aurier yellow carded twice in the space of four minutes, thus the red card.

For tomorrow’s game, Kevin Friend will be the VAR ref at Stockley Park while Michael Salisbury will have fourth official duties at Turf Moor.
