Graham Scott has previously refereed our away games this season at Arsenal and Chelsea but when he takes charge of the home game against Leeds United tomorrow it will be his first Turf Moor game since the home win against Everton in October 2019, a game we won 1-0 with a Jeff Hendrick goal after he’d left Everton with ten men following a harsh dismissal of Everton’s Séamus Coleman.

He also had his red card out in his first Burnley game this season at Arsenal but he had to be instructed to view the pitchside monitor by VAR official David Coote before sending off Granit Xhaka and the pair of them left most people baffled when he didn’t offer the same punishment to Mohamed Elneny for shoving two hands in James Tarkowski’s face. Scott has also refereed tomorrow’s opponents Leeds this season but just the once and that was their recent 2-1 home win against Sheffield United.

He’s very definitely not a referee who can guarantee Premier League games and seven of his last nine fixtures have been in the Championship with less than half of his games this season in the Premier League. He’s refereed 25 games in total in which he has shown 71 yellow and five red cards. Of those yellows, 34 have gone to home team players with 37 to away team players.

Four of the five red cards have been in Premier League games with the most recent just six days after our game at Arsenal when he followed up the Xhaka sending off when he red carded Fulham’s Joachim Andersen in their 1-1 draw at Newcastle. More recently he sent off Norwich’s Dimitrios Giannoulis in their 3-1 home defeat against Bournemouth.

His most recent game came last Saturday, the Championship game between Cardiff and Rotherham. He yellow carded Cardiff’s Joe Ralls along with Rotherham pair Michael Ihiekwe and Ben Wiles.

His fourth official tomorrow is Anthony Taylor who has refereed both of our previous two home games while Darren England, who will be on VAR duty, was referee when we won 4-0 at Wolves.
