We’ve currently played three and lost three in the Professional Development League this season and tomorrow afternoon we play Cardiff City in game number five.

Home defeats against Charlton and QPR have sandwiched a loss at Reading and now we will hope to get our season moving in this game at Cardiff. We’ve only scored one goal too, Lewis Richardson (pictured) against Charlton, but we certainly should have fared much better result wise in the two home games.

We take on a Cardiff side who have started their season with wins from both of their two games to date. They opened the season with a 2-1 home win against Peterborough and last Tuesday won 3-0 at Sheffield United with a Gavin Whyte hat trick, a player who has played 126 Football League games, although they were beaten 1-0 last Friday at Reading in the Premier League Cup.

We haven’t played Cardiff away from home in this league previously although we should have done in the 2019/20 season but it was amongst the games called off when the season was cancelled. We have played them at home twice with very mixed results. We were beaten 4-0 in the 2017/18 season but a year later were 4-1 winners with our goals scored by Dan Agyei, Matěj Vydra, Olatunde Bayode and Ali Koiki.

Both of those games were played behind closed doors. The first of them was moved from Turf Moor to Gawthorpe at the last minute and the 4-1 win was moved from Curzon Ashton to a venue that the club wouldn’t disclose. Cardiff revealed that it was played at Turf Moor, but again it was strictly behind closed doors.

That means tomorrow’s game will be the first time this fixture has been open to the public. Although their first game this season was played at the Cardiff City Stadium, tomorrow’s game is at the International Sports Stadium at Leckwith, a short walk from the football stadium.

The game kicks off at 1 p.m. with admission free to all. Cardiff are also streaming the game via their official channel on YouTube.
