1617 burnley steven defour 01 100x500Sean Dyche has confirmed this afternoon that Steven Defour has had surgery on his calf injury and is unlikely to be fit for the remainder of the season.

It’s been very much stop/start for the Belgian midfielder this season. Having had surgery in January, he didn’t feature again in 2017/18 but finally came back into first team action against Burton in the League Cup back in September last year. He won his place back in the league team for the trip to Manchester City and played in the next six games before coming off injured in the 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Another return saw him play in the two FA Cup ties against Barnsley and Manchester City and he made the subs bench in the league too. But he’s been unavailable again for a few weeks with this calf injury and has sought advice from two specialists resulting in him having had surgery.

Signed in August 2016, he signed an extension to his contract at Burnley some months ago that will see him remain with us until the end of next season.
