Our under-18s have played their final game of the season in the U18 Premier League this afternoon and have gone down 1-0 against Manchester City who, with this win, have taken the north league title.

It took a goal from Carlos Borges, who had scored against us in the away match at City two and a half weeks ago, with fifteen minutes remaining to give City the goal they needed.

City dominated the first half without being able to break through but Burnley were much improved after the break but couldn’t force a goal and, once behind, City were able to prevent us finding an equaliser.

We knew, win, draw or lose that we would finish ninth in the league and again it was a young side that Tony Philliskirk sent out with nine first year scholars alongside second year Sam Unwin and under-15 Joe Bauress.

The player photographed is Benn Ward, a defender who has been with the Clarets since moving from his home town of Hastings earlier this year.

The teams were;

Burnley: Sam Waller, Keelan Williams, Jack Leckie, Dan Sassi, Benn Ward, Dane McCullough, Kade Ratchford, Will Hugill (George Walters 87), Joe Bauress, Joe Smyth-Ferguson (Michael Mellon 62), Sam Unwin (Tremaine Eastmond 71). Subs not used: Jacson Coppack, Ruairi Behan.

Manchester City: Mikki van Sas, Shea Charles, Jadel Katongo, Callum Doyle, Juan Larios, Romeo Lavia, Oscar Bobb, Darko Gyabi (Tai Sodje 72), Micah Hamilton, Carlos Borges, Samuel Edozie. Subs not used: Josh McNamara, Kwaku Oduroh, Kian Breckin, Josh Adam.
