1415 burnley jason shackell 00 300x500Former Burnley captain Jason Shackell has been searching for a new club since his release from Derby County at the end of last season and today he’s found that club and has signed a one year deal with Lincoln City.

He was with us for three years from 2012 and 2015 and captained Sean Dyche’s first promotion team in the second of those three seasons. But following relegation in 2015 he opted for a return to Derby but eventually fell out of favour and ended last season on loan at Millwall.

Speaking after his move was confirmed today, he said: “There’s a lot of younger players in the squad and some really good experience here, but hopefully I can add to that and help pass on anything knowledge wise, or in tactics. That’s something I look to do. I like to help others where possible and help develop the squad that is already here.”

He added: “I think this is the right move for me. I’ve always played Championship or higher, but this club has been quite successful in the last few years. It’s on the up and the management team and the staff all seem great when I spoke to them. I received a lot of positives and thrilled to be joining.”

Shackell, who had previously played for Norwich, Wolves, Doncaster, Barnsley and Derby before signing for the Clarets, went on to make 136 appearances for us, scoring four times with two of those goals coming at Ewood.

Now 34, he’ll be looking to get his career back on track having not started a game since he lined up for Derby in a 3-2 win against Barnsley in September last year.
