It was a good day for the two Sheffield clubs in the U18 Professional Development League last Saturday as both recorded 4-0 away wins, United at Colchester United and Wednesday at Coventry City.

1920 burnley edon pruti 00 500x500Wednesday’s win, coupled with Wigan drawing at Crystal Palace, enabled them to go top, moving ahead of the Latics on goal difference while United needed that victory to prevent them dropping into bottom place with Bolton picking up their first points of the season with a win at QPR.

It was the last week of the north v south games, apart from one outstanding game to be played this Saturday, but Bolton and the two Sheffield clubs were the only north group winners in the ten games. Two of them were drawn, Barnsley joining Wigan in picking up an away point, but there were defeats for Hull, Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham, who were involved in the third 4-0 result at Millwall, and ourselves, beaten 3-1 at Watford.

It’s very much been advantage south in these opening weeks. They’ve recorded a total of 25 wins with just 15 by the north group teams although all eleven teams in our group have won at least one game with no one having more than two victories.

Both Charlton and Ipswich in the south remain unbeaten and such has been the points difference that the north group leaders would be in the bottom half if they were placed in the south group.

As from this week, each result will affect the table for both teams as the north group get their fixtures underway. We are at Wigan and we will now play all ten teams in our group, home and away, before playing the final five games against the south group teams.

It will be the following week before the south group gets fully underway with just one game this week between Crystal Palace and Cardiff.

The player featured this week is central defender Edon Pruti.

The League Tables are updated as results are confirmed and can be found with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
