When we played our first home game of this season against Southampton the game was refereed by Andre Marriner and it will be the same referee tomorrow when we travel to St. Mary’s for the return game against the Saints.

Marriner has refereed Southampton three times since. He was in charge of their home game against Liverpool at the start of January while either side of those two he added to the game at Turf Moor with two more of their away games at Wolves and Leeds.

We had something of a wait for his next Burnley game. That came last time out at home for the 1-1 draw against Arsenal when Marriner initially sent off Erik Pieters for handling on the line before reversing his decision having been advised by VAR official Kevin Friend.

He’s refereed just two games since that Arsenal game which have been the Premier League game between Fulham and Manchester City at Craven Cottage and then Leicester’s FA Cup win against Manchester United.

With the recent games, his total of yellow cards has now reached 68 in 25 games. The first of those were in the Community Shield at Wembley, of the other 67 yellows, 33 have gone to home team players and 34 to away team players.

In that last game at Leicester, he handed out four yellow cards. Leicester pair Jonny Evans and Marc Albrighton got two of them with Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay joining them.

Fourth official tomorrow is Simon Hooper. He refereed this fixture last season and his only Burnley game since was last season’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace. Jon Moss will be at Stockley Park on VAR duty and he’s refereed us very recently, our last game prior to the break at Everton.
