Burnley just missed out on the end of season play-offs in Premier League 2 with our under-23s ending the league season in sixth place but the semi-finals have been played in the last three days with Stoke City and Wolverhampton Wanderers to contest the final.

Stoke and Nottingham Forest met at the bet365 Stadium on Sunday, 15th May and Forest faced an uphill task as early as the 13th minute after a scuffle in the centre circle between a player from each club. It saw Forest’s Ateef Konate sent off.

With ten men, Forest survived until fifteen minutes from the end when Jack Griffiths, the Stoke player involved in the red card incident, opened the scoring. Will Goodwin scored a second four minutes into stoppage time to send Stoke through.

Last night, attention turned to Molineux where Wolves took on Norwich, the team that had beaten us to that last play-off place on goal difference. It ended 1-1 with Hugo Bueno scoring in the first half for Wolves and Tyrese Omotoye replying for Norwich after the break.

Wolves must have had concerns when it went to a penalty shoot out. Just four days earlier they’d been beaten in the Premier League Cup final on penalties by West Brom. On that occasion they failed with four of their eight penalties, losing 5-4 against West Brom but last night they scored all five with Norwich failing just once and went through to the final, this time winning 5-4.

The final, to decide who will go up to Division 1 with Fulham, will be played at Molineux next Monday, 23rd May.
